The Gift of Access: TechFIN Helps Community Members Pursue Education and Careers

Teenager gets his free laptop

The Opportunity Hub distributed 150 refurbished laptops to community members on June 18, helping remove technology barriers for residents pursuing educational and career opportunities.

The laptops, donated by TechFIN, were provided to individuals who attended The Opportunity Hub’s June 5 Career Fair and identified access to technology as a challenge to achieving their academic or workforce goals.

Career and Workforce Specialist Joyce Perez said the need for reliable technology quickly became apparent after she joined the organization.

“One of the greatest challenges has been access to laptops,” Perez said. “People need them to apply for jobs, complete college essays and finish schoolwork. When this initiative came up, I knew it was something our community needed.”

Coordinated by The Opportunity Hub’s RISE Team, the distribution was designed to equip residents with the tools needed to search for jobs, attend virtual interviews, complete training programs, and manage coursework.

“I’m extremely grateful for my new laptop from The Opportunity Hub,” said local resident Yasmine Fair. “It’s made so many things easier, especially my job search. I couldn’t be more thankful for this new resource.”

The laptop giveaway reflects The Opportunity Hub’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to education, employment and workforce development. Through its partnership with TechFIN and the efforts of the RISE Team, the organization continues to equip residents with the technology and resources needed to pursue academic achievement, secure employment, and build long-term success.
